Rare $22,000 prize for Darwin race

ONE driver will be afforded the chance to vie for a lucrative $22,000 prize at the upcoming Hi-Tec Oils Super Series event at Hidden Valley.

The Darwin round on the upcoming April 29 to May 1 long weekend has already been in the news tonight, with young guns Tyler Everingham and Jordan Cox signing on for the world-first two-driver TA2 race to take place there.

Now, V8 Sleuth can reveal another innovative concept: the $22k Dash For Cash in the Hyundai Excel category.

All up, there will be four Excel races at the event: two 21-lap affairs on the Sunday and another couple of 22-lap sprints the following day.

Separate qualifying sessions will set the grid for Races 1 and 2 of the weekend, while combined points will determine the starting order for Race 3.

The driver who accumulates the most points across the three races will then be offered the Dash For Cash challenge (pending the presence of at least 30 entries).

If the driver accepts the challenge, they will start Race 4 from the rear of the grid (instead of the front) – with the carrot of $22,000 if they can charge back to win the race.

If the driver with the most points from the first three races declines the challenge, it will not be offered to anyone else.

In addition to Excels and the TA2 Muscle Car Series, the HQ Holden Crocodile Cup will also feature as part of the event schedule.

Sanctioned by the Australian Auto Sport Alliance (AASA), the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series was previously known as the Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS).
