Rare track appearance for DJR boss

SHELL V-Power Racing Team supremo Ryan Story has made a rare appearance in the Repco Supercars Championship paddock at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

The co-owner and executive chairman of the famous Ford outfit has faced ongoing health issues for the last several years that have prevented him from travelling to events.

Based in southeast Queensland, Story visited the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit to watch on as Will Davison put the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang on top in Practice 1.

It’s Story’s first Supercars round in almost 18 months, his previous being The Bend SuperSprint in May last year.

DONE DEAL: DJR inks two-year sponsorship deal

He had been set to attend the Townsville 500 in July this year, only to be a late withdrawal.

There has been significant change since then, the Ralph family buying a majority stake in Dick Johnson Racing under the Melbourne Aces banner.

Story is not the only returning figure this weekend, three-time Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin in attendance.

McLaughlin will officially be part of the Supercars broadcast at the season-closing Adelaide 500 in December.

“Obviously it’s really nice to see him here,” Davison said of Story.

“He loves it, he really loves it. He comes into work and when he’s in race mode he gets a big lift, he’s very passionate about the team.

“It was really cool to see him here today and obviously Scotty was around as well, so I think a few of the boys are definitely happy to see him.”
