Rebuilt Erebus Holden hits track with fresh look

EREBUS Motorsport has hit the track for what is essentially a shakedown of its rapidly rebuilt #9 ZB Commodore Supercar.

The squad’s efforts to repair the car following a huge Pukekohe crash has been one of the key storylines leading into the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000.

Erebus CEO Barry Ryan outlined the mission in the latest Castrol Motorsport News podcast, released yesterday. The rebuild has effectively saved the highly anticipated Erebus/Boost wildcard for Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway.

Both Car #9 (Will Brown/Jack Perkins) and Car #51 (Murphy/Stanaway) are running today at Winton Motor Raceway.

“Today is our regular pre-Bathurst test but it is also a shakedown of what is pretty much a new car,” said Brown, who heaped praise on his team’s repair efforts.

“Today’s focus is about getting Jack laps, doing pitstop practices and driver changes, but also making sure we are happy with the new build and the car is ready to head to the Mountain.

“I feel good heading into Bathurst, we were fast last year and have been competitive every year we’ve rolled up so there’s no reason why we’re not in with a chance for a top spot come Sunday afternoon.”

Both of Erebus’ regular entries will take a revised livery into Bathurst.

“The car looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see it take on The Mountain,” said #99 primary driver Brodie Kostecki.

“Dave (Russell) and I are both really pumped going into Bathurst this year.

We had a really good test day at The Bend last week so all signs are looking positive and we want to go two spots better this year.”

Kostecki and Russell made the Great Race podium last year, finishing third behind Chaz Mostert/Lee Holdsworth and Cameron Waters/James Moffat.
