Six helmet cams in new-look Supercars broadcast

ALMOST a quarter of the Repco Supercars Championship field is running helmet cameras this weekend at the Thrifty Newcastle 500.

The state-of-the-art Driver’s Eye technology, giving fans unprecedented insight into what it’s like behind the wheel of a Supercar, debuted with Cam Waters last December in Adelaide.

The 9mm-by-9mm camera is now running with five other drivers, as well as Waters once more, for the opening round of the Gen3 era.

Joining Waters on the Mustang side is Tickford Racing teammate James Courtney and Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert, while helmet cameras are also aboard the Camaros of Will Brown, Scott Pye and Andre Heimgartner.

Courtney is further providing audio insight, with the television commentators to cross to the 2010 champion while he’s on-track in his #5 Snowy River Caravans Ford at various times this weekend.

A new television graphics package has also debuted, centring around a revised leaderboard on the left-hand side of screens.

Another two Supercars practice sessions are still to come today.
