Slade’s dream for BRT send-off

THE Blanchard Racing Team saved Tim Slade’s Repco Supercars Championship career and he’s motivated to repay them in their final event together.

After finding himself on the sidelines in 2020, BRT and Slade agreed to terms for the one-car team’s debut the following season.

Slade has since performed solidly for BRT, who in turn have given the two-time race winner a car capable of reminding the field of his abilities – which will continue to be on display next year, at PremiAir Racing.

It’s not been all smooth sailing though, with a sharp drop in form following April’s Australian Grand Prix.

It has been known for months that Slade and BRT will split at season’s end, but there’s still a key prize they’re working together towards.

“There’s absolutely no animosity or ill-feelings or anything like that,” the 37-year-old told V8 Sleuth.

“I’ve been friends with the Blanchards for a long time and I’ll continue to be friends with the Blanchards for a long time.

“I appreciate the opportunity and I think we’ve done some good things together and I hope nothing more than to finish off the year well.

“The aim is definitely to be in the top 10 in the championship.”

Entering the Adelaide finale, Slade is perched 11th in the standings, albeit just four points behind Andre Heimgartner of Brad Jones Racing.

Team 18 veteran Mark Winterbottom is only a further 53 points up the road too.

One of four current Supercars drivers to hail from South Australia, Slade’s best Adelaide result came in his 25th and most recent start there: fourth place in Race 2 of the 2019 edition.

Bettering that would be the ultimate dream, if a long shot.

“A podium for me in Adelaide would be the equivalent of Bathurst,” said Slade.

“It would be extremely nice but we’ll see what happens.”

Slade’s seat at BRT will be taken by Todd Hazelwood next year, while the team will also field Aaron Love in Super2.
