Stanaway scores Triple Eight call-up for Perth

RICHIE Stanaway will make his second event start for Triple Eight Race Engineering this weekend in Perth.

Stanaway will substitute for Broc Feeney in the #888 Mercedes-AMG entry in Round 2 of GT World Challenge Australia, as the latter focuses purely on his Supercars duties at Wanneroo Raceway.

Stanaway signed with Triple Eight late last year to partner Shane van Gisbergen in the 2023 Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000.

That’s led to various opportunities to jump behind the wheel of a race car, taking part in Gen3 test days as well as lining up alongside Jamie Whincup and Prince Jefri Ibrahim at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

Now Stanaway will be reunited with Ibrahim for the Western Australian round.

Whincup will continue in the sister #88 alongside Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim.

Stanaway is one of several new faces for Round 2, after the Mount Panorama season-opener was swept by the Shannons Audi of Liam Talbot and Max Hofer.

Christopher Mies slots in alongside Geoff Emery, who had Christer Joens for company during the Bathurst 6 Hour race weekend.

Winner of the Bathurst 6 Hour itself, Jayden Ojeda, has signed with Harrolds Volante Rosso Motorsport.

Ojeda has displaced Sam Brabham in the #101 Mercedes-AMG he’ll share with Ross Poulakis.

The other high-profile additions are Renee Gracie in a solo GT Trophy class Audi, and Jordan Love in a Pro-Am entry with Tony Bates.
