Team 18’s Gen3 dream roars to life

TEAM 18 has cut its long-awaited maiden Gen3 Supercar laps, with both its Chevrolet Camaros taking to the track at Winton Motor Raceway this morning.

A team spokesperson has confirmed to V8 Sleuth that both its #18 DeWalt and #20 Hino entries, driven by Mark Winterbottom and Scott Pye respectively, have sprung into action.

Team 18 had initially planned to run earlier this week before delaying both its shakedowns to yesterday.

Another hiccup then emerged in the form of a steering wheel issue affecting both cars.

Team manager Bruin Beasley explained the squad opted to push its shakedowns back one more day in order to fully fix the gremlins and allow for the smoothest possible debut today.

Each of the other 23 Supercars have completed at least a shakedown, if not a subsequent test as well.

The entire field will be in action at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 22 for a pre-season test, with Team 18 planning to return to Winton on March 1 – nine days before opening practice at Newcastle.

Team 18 is fielding Triple Eight-built chassis, although it assembled its cars in-house.
