The 5899-day streak which will end at Perth

A MAMMOTH streak will come to an end this weekend when the Dunlop Series rolls out on track at Wanneroo Raceway.

For the first time since the 2007 season-opener at Adelaide, MW Motorsport will be absent from the Super2 grid.

V8 Sleuth revealed last week that MWM was hitting pause on its 2023 campaign, its initial one-round deal with Jay Robotham not being extended.

Team boss Matt White has indicated they will also miss Round 3 at Townsville before looking to return for any/all of Sandown, Bathurst and Adelaide in either Super2 or Super3.

The Victorian squad has a Super2 Ford Mustang and two Super3 Nissan Altimas in its possession.

White has been a stalwart of the second-tier category, right from its foundation season in 2000 when as a driver he finished runner-up to Dean Canto.

He skipped the 2001 campaign to focus on a main game privateer entry, racing a VS Commodore at Phillip Island, Adelaide, Hidden Valley, Calder Park and Sandown, as well as joining Stone Brothers Racing’s David Besnard for the enduros.

Since then, the 2007 Adelaide round is the only time Super2 has been without White/MWM.

That came in a season where White rotated through drivers of both his BA Falcons in the subsequent events.

Marcus Marshall, John McIntyre, Geoff Emery and White himself cycled through the #28 Ford, and Tim Slade and Grant Denyer through the #29.

So, it has been 5899 days between the final day of the 2007 Adelaide round – won by Ford Rising Stars Racing’s Michael Caruso – and the opening day of the Perth SuperSprint this Friday.

In that period, MWM has gone on to win four Super2 crowns, for Jonathon Webb (2009), Dale Wood (2013), Bryce Fullwood (2019) and Thomas Randle (2020).

Zak Best of Anderson Motorsport leads the current season heading into Perth.
