THE BENEFIT OF EREBUS’ DRIVER SECURITY

WILL Brown says the domino effect of Erebus Motorsport’s unrivalled mid-term driver security ensures there’ll be an unabated pursuit of success.

Erebus Motorsport is the only Repco Supercars Championship team to have publicly committed to its full driver line-up through 2024 after sealing contract extensions with both Brown and Brodie Kostecki.

That’s come before many other teams have even formalised their 2023 rosters.

Brown, who had been linked to a possible shift to the Shell V-Power Racing Team before the status quo was maintained, is happy to have his future sorted.

“At least we all know we’re continuing together, we’re all looking forward to that,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“There’s no one leaving at the end of the year so everyone just wants to work together and do the best they can because we know good, bad or ugly this is what we have got for the next two years and we want to make it the best place we can.

“Like we have done over the last two years, me and Brodie, we’ve enjoyed going racing and I think we have done a really good job so hopefully that continues.”

Brown in fact revealed he and Kostecki signed their new deals on the exact same day, knowing they wanted to continue on together.

“We’re always geeing each other up and probably pissing each other off a bit but we’re actually just mates going racing,” said the #9 driver.

“We’re competitive against each other but as you have seen since we have started with Erebus, if I’m faster than Brodie or he’s faster than me out on the track, we let each other go.

“We’re a team, we’re working to get the cars, either/or car, up the front and work the best we can for Erebus.

“I think it has been a great dynamic and I think you saw that a lot with Jamie (Whincup) and Shane (van Gisbergen, at Triple Eight) when they were both fast – we’re not getting told what to do on the radio, we can just tell that one is faster and you let them go and have a crack.”

After a tough start to the season, Brown has enjoyed a better run of late, including his first podium of the year at Sandown.
