THE PODIUM RECORD WILL DAVISON IS AIMING TO SNAP

SHELL V-Power Racing Team driver Will Davison racked up yet another podium finish in last night’s ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight at Sydney Motorsport Park, reaching a milestone he’d probably rather not have.

Davison’s third place behind the two Red Bull Ampol Commodores gave him his 10th podium finish of the season – he’s scored four runner-up results and six third places.

However, the two-time Bathurst winner is yet to score a race win this season, claiming his last victory at Bathurst in October 2016.

That means his 10th podium of the season gives him a record he could still shake, given there are still eight races left – the most podiums in an ATCC/Supercars Championship season without a win.

The previous record was held by last night’s winner Shane van Gisbergen, who took nine podiums in 2010 with Stone Brothers Racing without a win.

Davison’s team co-owner, Dick Johnson, scored eight podiums in the 1985 championship without a win, while Ian Geoghegan finished on the podium seven times in 1971 without a win.

In each of those years there was a single race per round, rather than the more plentiful quantity of races in the modern-day championship calendar.

The Repco Supercars Championship returns into action today, Sunday November 7, with two more qualifying sessions, the first kicking off at 2.30pm AEDT.

There will be two more races, each over 32 laps, at 4.35pm and 7.30pm local time.
