The unpublished standings behind a 2023 title

A NEW trophy introduced for 2023 flew under the radar as the season wore on: specifically, the Dunlop Series teams’ championship.

For the first time in category history, a teams’ championship was awarded, with Eggleston Motorsport ultimately taking the crown.

It was not quite the system usually associated with a teams’ championship, though, with a tweak designed to help single-car squads better compete with those who field multiple cars.

“The Car from each Team with the most points from a Round will be used to form the total Team points of the Dunlop Series Teams’ Championship,” read an excerpt from the 2023 operations manual.

Those standings never really saw much airtime, so V8 Sleuth jumped on the case.

While the regulations don’t specifically differentiate Super2 from Super3, the below calculations have been based solely on Super2 for the purpose of simplicity (noting that race/round results are routinely split into classes and not combined).

Eggleston was the only four-car outfit in the field this year, although only Kai Allen and Cooper Murray contributed to its teams’ championship tally (given neither Cameron Crick nor Jordyn Sinni were Eggleston’s leading pointscorer at any round).
