Tickford seeking green light on standardised steering rack

TICKFORD Racing hopes the Gen3 steering rack it has developed will become a standardised Supercars item.

There have been a variety of different racks used this season across the field: the Tickford unit which first debuted late last year, plus new- and old-spec versions of the original Sportech product.

Triple Eight yesterday became the latest team to trial the Tickford rack, at a Supercars-supervised test at Queensland Raceway (following engine work).

It comes as the Campbellfield squad pushes to have the Supercars Commission approve its rack as a control item.

“We’re doing some modifications to it at the moment based on the feedback from testing,” Tickford CEO Simon Brookhouse recently told V8 Sleuth.

“We’re very hopeful that it will get to the next Commission meeting at Supercars and a decision will be made one way or the other.”

Asked to clarify that the desire was for standardisation, Brookhouse replied: “That’s the hope, that the Tickford rack becomes the rack that everybody runs.

“It’s less expensive than the Sportech and it’s also from all accounts more durable and more reliable than the others.

“We need everyone to buy in, everyone on the one page, but there’s a lot of support there from the other teams so it’s now just down to making a decision and moving forward.”
