Tickford to farewell Supercars champion

TICKFORD Racing has made the unsurprising announcement that James Courtney will depart at season’s end.

The 2010 Supercars champion will make way, as will rookie Declan Fraser, as Tickford downscales to a streamlined two-car effort next season revolving around Cam Waters and Thomas Randle – although that duo is yet to be officially confirmed.

Interestingly, the Ford team’s communications today do not mention Fraser nor Waters/Randle.

After an ill-fated venture with Team Sydney, Courtney joined Tickford in May 2020 and has accumulated six podiums since.

It appears only a matter of time before the 43-year-old’s 2024 deal with the Blanchard Racing Team is made public.

“Thanks to Tickford Racing for providing the opportunity to race for the team and create some lifelong friendships,” said Courtney, who requested a release from his multi-year contract with the Campbellfield organisation.

“It’s a family feel and was great to have the unwavering support of the Tickford fans and members, plus the entire crew whilst steering the #5 Mustang”.

Tickford team principal Tim Edwards spoke highly of the Snowy River Caravans-backed star.

“We are grateful for JC stepping into the team to drive, where he showcased his determination to compete at the front whilst keeping his sense of humour in what can be a brutal and unpredictable sport,” said Edwards.

“We wish him all the best with his future endeavours, where we’ll look to take it up to him and kick his arse on the track in 2024!”

Like Courtney, the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 is Edwards’ penultimate event with Tickford.
