Title sponsor announced for first Gen3 Supercars event

THE Newcastle 500 will have a new naming rights sponsor for its return to the Repco Supercars Championship.

Thrifty Car Rental has been announced as the 2023 event’s title backer, as well as on a two-year deal to be the official hire car partner of Supercars.

Thus, the inaugural round of the Gen3 era will be known as the Thrifty Newcastle 500.

Having last hosted Supercars action in 2019, the Newcastle Street Circuit will play host to the competitive debuts of the Gen3 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro on March 10-12.

That will come roughly six weeks after the first round of team testing of the new cars.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard hailed the inking of the agreement with Thrifty.

“To have an internationally recognised brand like Thrifty onboard as naming rights partner for one of our marquee events is great news ahead of our 2023 Championship,” he said.

Thrifty vice-president Eoin MacNeill added: “We are excited to partner with Australasia’s leading touring car category, the Repco Supercars Championship on this new multi-year deal.

“Supercars has a national footprint and we are thrilled to be working with them to deliver world-class events from 2023 when we welcome the Gen3 Mustang and Camaro to the grid.

“We can’t wait to get behind next year’s opening event of the Championship on the streets of Newcastle as the new naming rights partner of the event.”
