Toyota backing returns for Pye

TEAM 18 will be hoping a return to Toyota Forklifts backing can inspire Scott Pye to another blockbuster performance.

In his first race with Toyota primary branding at last year’s Adelaide 500, Pye qualified on the front row and was in contention for the win until an ill-timed Safety Car and then contact from Bryce Fullwood conspired against him.

Pye’s #20 has continued to operate with a rolling sponsorship model this year, with Toyota taking the lead on his Chevrolet Camaro for this weekend’s Perth SuperSprint.

“I’m very excited to have Toyota back onboard for our next round in Perth and proud to represent a very iconic brand as well,” he said.

“I think Adelaide 500 was a weekend where we showed a massive amount of speed and unfortunately we didn’t get the results we wanted.

“But to have them back on the car now, it’s a great opportunity to hopefully roll out with speed similar to what we had in Adelaide and, and get that result that went begging.”

Perth has not been kind to Pye over the years, with his sole top 10 result at Wanneroo Raceway coming in 2014 for Dick Johnson Racing.

His trip west last year saw him score no Sunday points after a dramatic Race 2 collision with Jack Le Brocq on pit straight ruled him out of the weekend.
