Triple Eight analysing Feeney deficit

TRIPLE Eight team principal Jamie Whincup admits there is homework to be done to get Broc Feeney back to his very best.

After winning three of the opening five races of the season, Feeney has now been beaten by teammate Will Brown in each of the last five races.

That in turn has seen Brown’s buffer atop the championship grow to 136 points, while third-placed Chaz Mostert is now just 39 points away from a frustrated Feeney.

Whincup conceded that Triple Eight had simply been outperformed by Walkinshaw Andretti United and Tickford Racing in Perth, and that Feeney in particular had “made his bed” by qualifying 12th for the Sunday leg.

The #88 driver did at least salvage seventh from that mid-pack starting slot.

“I’m pretty disappointed to walk away with a fifth and seventh for the weekend, but I think we maximised where we could, and limited the damage that was done,” Feeney said.

Whincup indicated there will be a deep dive into Feeney’s slight dip in form, before Darwin hosts Round 5 on June 14-16.

“We’ll just go away and see where the deficits were and work out was it set-up, was it driver, was it a combination of both? I’m not exactly sure,” said Whincup.

“I think mechanically everything is identical. So that’s just homework.”
