Triple Eight enters Asian Le Mans Series

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering will expand its GT racing program into the Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS).

The squad has lodged a single-car entry for the upcoming championship, scheduled to take place over the 2023/2024 summer months.

The three-round, five-race series gets underway with a double-header at Sepang in Malaysia on December 2-3, before back-to-back rounds at the Dubai Autodrome and Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit in early February.

Its participation in the Middle East rounds won’t clash with next year’s Bathurst 12 Hour courtesy of that event shifting to take place a fortnight later than its traditional date, although the Mount Panorama enduro will be the team’s third event in as many weekends.

Triple Eight’s GT program has had a busy 2023 so far, fielding Mercedes-AMGs at the Bathurst 12 Hour, GT World Challenge Australia and GT Asia championships.

A total of 36 cars have entered for the championship across LMP2, LMP3 and GT classes, with Triple Eight’s Mercedes one of 23 cars vying for GT class honours.

One of its competitors will be Earl Bamber Motorsport, which will also make its debut in the series with a pair of Porsches.

Interestingly, the teams that win the GT and LMP2 titles in the ALMS will earn an invitation to enter the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
