Triple Eight in, DJR out for January 30 shakedown

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering is pressing on with plans to debut its first Gen3 race car next Monday, despite other teams delaying scheduled shakedowns.

UPDATE! Triple Eight withdraws from scheduled shakedown

V8 Sleuth has verified that Triple Eight is still expecting to have at least one of its new Chevrolet Camaros running at Queensland Raceway on January 30.

The same cannot be said about the Shell V-Power Racing Team, which has confirmed to V8 Sleuth that it is officially out for January 30.

Instead, the Ford powerhouse is planning to hit the track for the first time on February 7 to allow for more time in the wait for parts.

The fate of the other two Queensland based teams, Matt Stone Racing and PremiAir Racing, is not yet clear although the latter’s team principal Matt Cook recently indicated that its January 30 participation would mirror Triple Eight’s.

MSR is going full steam but is another facing the parts waiting game quandary.

It’s a similar scenario for the seven southern squads, many of whom have already given up on making it to Winton Motor Raceway on February 1.

Erebus Motorsport has been the most vocal of all on the matter, its CEO Barry Ryan penning an open letter explaining the situation which will likely see his team not begin testing until at least February 13.

It has otherwise been a mixed week for the Gen3 project, with progress coming in the form of engines arriving at team workshops but still no word on whether the homologation process has been finalised.

Testing with Supercars’ prototype cars at QR in the past seven days has involved work on the Mustang’s engine mapping, while the category’s troublesome control steering rack has gone under the microscope via the Camaro.

The Camaro and Mustang prototypes were built by homologation teams Triple Eight and DJR respectively but are owned by Supercars and are not destined for racing duties.
