Triple Eight pleased with Gen3 focus change

AFTER an inaugural Gen3 season plagued by parity arguments and dissatisfaction, such debate has eased in the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship.

That of course has followed off-season wind tunnel testing which brought confidence to both marques that aero was finally sorted, continued refinements on the engine front, and ongoing monitoring of Mustang versus Camaro performance.

So even with the scoreline reading eight-nil in the Camaro’s favour, parity hasn’t been a major talking point in the paddock.

And that’s a welcome change, says Mark Dutton, team manager of Chevrolet homologation squad Triple Eight.

“Definitely. It was spoken about too much last year – and not just too much because everyone was sick of hearing it, too much because it was a bit of a scapegoat for some people,” Dutton told V8 Sleuth.

“So that is a very, very good thing that it’s not being spoken about because it can overshadow good racing.

“There was lots of good racing and lots of excitement that was happening last year that probably wasn’t getting highlighted as it should have been due to that ugly ‘p’ word.

“So this year, the fact that the main focus from what I can see anyway is on on-track, good driving, good teamwork, just good battles, really exciting racing – we have been fortunate to have some brilliant racing so far this year – and that’s been what has been spoken about for the most part, happy days.”

Triple Eight leads both championships after three rounds this season, after being trumped by Erebus Motorsport in 2023.
