Two-night Sydney format for TCR World Tour

THE first Kumho TCR World Tour event in Australia will be dubbed Race Sydney and run across two nights.

In a joint venture between the Australian Racing Group and the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club, the Sydney Motorsport Park spectacle will be held across Friday November 3 and Saturday November 4, with a focus on afternoon and evening track action.

Sunday will be an off day to give crews time to prepare for the Bathurst International the following weekend, which will double as the penultimate round of the TCR World Tour.

“The ARDC has a proud history of creating some of Australia’s most iconic race meetings on legendary tracks like Amaroo, Catalina and Mount Panorama,” said ARDC CEO Glenn Matthews.

“As current operators of Sydney Motorsport Park, which now runs day and night with our stadium LED lighting and advanced infrastructure, we are thrilled to join ARG in bringing a new, international-standard event to our shores and our track.”

Race 1 for TCR will be on the Friday night, before further Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening encounters.

“We’ve worked closely with the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club to settle on the best possible format for this event and make it as fan-friendly as possible,” said ARG chief operating officer Liam Curkpatrick.

“The ARSC and WSC, promoters of the TCR World Tour, have been great to work with as we try to make the biggest impact possible for the first TCR World Tour round on Aussie soil.

“Having all the action condensed across two days works perfectly and the ability to use Sydney Motorsport Park’s fantastic lighting means we can run in prime time both nights, which works brilliantly for spectators and for TV audiences here and around the world.”

Support categories at the event are set to include the National Trans Am Series, Radical Cup Australia and Hyundai Excels.
