V8 Utes set to make on-track comeback

THE glory days of the V8 Ute Racing Series are set to be celebrated as part of this October’s Burson Auto Parts Bend Classic at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park in South Australia.

The theme of this year’s Classic is ‘going country’ and the addition of a SuperSprint for V8 Utes as part of the mix, along with Group N touring cars, Formula 5000 and Historic Sportscars and Open Wheel cars.

The V8 Utes Series was originally known as V8BRutes and ran as part of the PROCAR Championship Series until its collapse in 2004.

The category forged forward under the management of SPHERIX’s Craig Denyer and Bill West and under the banner of V8 Utes and ran through to the end of 2017.

The V8 Ute tape archive now lives with V8 Sleuth’s publisher, AN1 Media, with a selection of old races and action published on V8 Sleuth’s YouTube page and V8 Sleuth’s social media accounts.

A large number of ex-BRute and V8 Ute race cars remain around the country and the Bend Classic is aiming to reunite former and current competitors and car owners.

To be held on the 3.4-kilometre West Circuit, categories for SuperSprints are also open to F1, Open Wheel and prototypes, Modern Sports, NASCAR, Historic Sports Sedans/Classic Improved Production and Tribute Group A/Group C cars.

Entry to the classic also includes tickets to the Country Music Festival on the Saturday that features a line-up including country music stars Lee Kernaghan, Kasey Chambers, Brad Cox and Beccy Cole.

Paddock garaging and discounted accommodation at the Rydges Pitlane is being offered exclusively to V8 Ute competitors.

The Bend Classic will be held on the weekend of October 25-27, the same weekend as the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 Supercars event.
