VAN GISBERGEN, DAVISON TAKE SUNDAY POLES

WILL Davison has clinched the last ever Repco Supercars Championship pole position at Pukekohe Park Raceway, rebounding after Triple Eight Race Engineering sprung a surprise.

Having been a little off the pace during the opening two days of the ITM Auckland SuperSprint, Shane van Gisbergen this morning led a Triple Eight front-row lockout for Race 28.

It puts him in the box seat for one last victory at Pukekohe before the circuit closes to motorsport next April.

Van Gisbergen and Feeney will have the Shell Mustangs of Davison and Anton De Pasquale right behind for the first 41-lap race today.

In the second of the rapid-fire qualifying sessions, it was an all-Ford top three as Saturday race winner Davison blitzed the field with a 1:01.9211s – the fastest time of the weekend.

Among others to impress was Team 18’s Scott Pye, who has now qualified sixth for all three races.

In Race 29, Pye will be on the third row alongside Andre Heimgartner, who led the Kiwi charge yesterday.

Of those to struggle this morning were Will Brown and James Courtney, who will start outside the top 20 for both encounters.

Race 28 will get underway at 10:55am AEST/12:55pm NZST.

Later in the day, the last ever Supercars race at Pukekohe will start 2:10pm AEST/4:10pm NZST.
