Van Gisbergen scores top-tier NASCAR Daytona debut

SHANE van Gisbergen has been confirmed for a NASCAR Cup Series start at Daytona International Speedway later this year.

Van Gisbergen tackled the famous Florida circuit in both the Xfinity and ARCA series last month, gaining valuable experience.

The Kiwi has now had the August 24 race at Daytona, the Coke Zero Sugar 400, added to his partial 2024 Cup Series program with Kaulig Racing.

That confirmation has come via Trackhouse Racing – who SVG is contracted to – announcing a number of races where SafetyCulture will take naming rights on his car.

SafetyCulture, the company of Australian rally driver Luke Anear, will step up as van Gisbergen’s major backer for three Xfinity Series races (Phoenix on March 9, Michigan on August 17 and Kansas on September 28) as well as the August Daytona Cup Series meeting.

“Partnering with Trackhouse Racing is an incredible opportunity to showcase the teamwork and behind-the-scenes collaboration it takes to have success out on the track,” said Anear.

“The Trackhouse team are known for their commitment, perseverance and hard work, which is what we’re all about.

“The team has had an incredible start this season, and we look forward to helping them simplify their behind-the-scenes operations, so they continue to deliver great results.”

Van Gisbergen had previously been announced to take part in a minimum of seven Cup Series races.

That figure is now set to rise to eight with the addition of Daytona to his schedule.

The previously announced septet included Circuit of the Americas (March 24), Charlotte Motor Speedway (May 26), Chicago Street Race (July 7), Watkins Glen (September 15), Las Vegas Motor Speedway (October 20) and twice at Talladega Superspeedway (April 21 and October 6).
