THE latest episode on Perkins Engineering’s popular YouTube channel features a very special on-board lap of Mount Panorama.
If you’ve visited the National Motor Racing Museum at Bathurst in recent months, you’ll have noticed a Volkswagen Beetle among the cars on display for Engineered Outcomes – The Larry Perkins Story.
It’s the car that he campaigned in both the 1979 Repco Reliability Trial and the inaugural Australasian Safari in 1985, and he has been steadily restoring it to running condition over the past year.
In fact, Perkins hadn’t had a chance to properly drive the car prior to it going into the museum for the exhibition – something he put right this week when he and son Jack picked it up!
Jack filmed the occasion and the lap for the Perkins Engineering YouTube channel, documenting the first time Larry had driven the car in over 35 years.
A reminder, too: the National Motor Racing Museum holds the last remaining stock of our recently released book, Perkins Engineering: The Cars, 1986-2008. Contact them on (02) 6332 1872 to secure a copy.
