Weather forecast: Race day at the Bathurst 1000

EXTREME weather yesterday forced a historic cancellation of the Repco Bathurst 1000 Top 10 Shootout but far better conditions are on the cards for race day.

The latest Bureau of Meteorology forecast for the NSW Central Tablelands region, released at 5:15am AEDT this morning, has the chance of rain down to 60 percent.

The morning is predicted to be overcast with showers before the sun makes an appearance in the afternoon.

There is a catch, though.

“Showers most likely during the morning but there is the chance of a thunderstorm during this afternoon and early evening,” reads the BOM report.

The 161-lap race is scheduled to start at 11:15am.

Works took place overnight to safeguard the race, with drainage a key focus.
