WHAT HAPPENED TO DICK’S BATHURST 12 HOUR FALCON?

DICK Johnson’s race cars, particularly his Bathurst cars, are keenly sought-after collectables.

However, there’s one that appears to have fallen through the cracks and we’d really love to know where it ended up.

In 1994 he paired with son Steven and Colourscan’s Danny Osborne in an XR6 Falcon in the James Hardie 12 Hour production car race at Bathurst.

The trio’s six-cylinder Falcon had a great run. They won Class V for V8 and six-cylinder high performance cars, completing 245 laps, and finished a brilliant sixth overall.

The race was the last 12 Hour held at Bathurst until 2007 given the event was moved to Eastern Creek in 1995 – in fact Dick and John Bowe won that race in the factory Mazda RX-7 SP.

So what happened to the Falcon XR6?

Do any of our V8 Sleuth followers know what became of the car?

It gave Steven Johnson his first Bathurst race laps, given he missed out on any in the 1993 Bathurst 12 Hour when the Ford Laser TX3 Turbo he shared with his dad and Cameron McConville retired in the opening minutes with Dick at the wheel, and he didn’t make his Bathurst 1000 debut in a DJR Falcon until later in 1994.
