Why DJR has delayed second shakedown

DICK Johnson Racing has joined Matt Stone Racing in postponing the shakedown of its second Gen3 Supercar.

Both teams headed to Queensland Raceway yesterday with one car each and had been planning to debut their respective second cars tomorrow.

MSR today indicated to V8 Sleuth that parts delays had forced it to move the shakedown of its second Camaro to February 14, and now DJR has confirmed that’s also the case for its #11 Mustang.

“We just want to try to understand a little bit more about everything with how the car ran yesterday and just give ourselves a little bit more time so that we have a meaningful day on track with the second car,” DJR team principal Ben Croke told V8 Sleuth.

Eyewitnesses at QR yesterday reported the MSR Camaro had completed many more laps than its Shell V-Power Mustang counterpart; Croke conceded some teething issues were encountered.

“It definitely wasn’t as smooth as we probably would have liked but lots of positives and just some long changes,” he said.

“That’s what it’s all about, getting a really good understanding of what we learnt yesterday and applying that to the second car and giving it a really good systems check and moving on with the learning side of things.

“It wasn’t the amount of laps that we would do at a normal test day but I don’t think anyone is going to be getting those sort of numbers for a little while yet while you’re trying to learn how these things are going to react to different set-ups and bits and pieces.”

Both Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale hopped behind the wheel of the #17 Ford on Tuesday.

Triple Eight Race Engineering and PremiAir Racing will still venture out to QR tomorrow.

That day, and the February 14 hitout, will both be open to the public to attend, unlike yesterday’s action.
