CONFIRMED: ADELAIDE 500 TO BE CELEBRATED IN NEW BOOK

THE only event in the Supercars Hall of Fame – the Adelaide 500 – will be celebrated in a new hardcover collector’s book to be produced by the award-winning AN1 Media publishing team behind the V8 Sleuth website and a wide range of successful motorsport books.

The news last Thursday that the annual Supercars event on the Adelaide street circuit would not continue in 2021 has jolted the industry with an outpouring of emotion from competitors, fans and associated parties.

Very loose preliminary plans had been in place for a book documenting the history of the event – but in the wake of last week’s news these have now been brought forward by the publisher to cater for public demand and the end result will be a 400 page hardcover book to be released in 2021.

The new book ‘Sensational Adelaide: The Illustrated History Of The Adelaide 500’ will feature year-by-year chapters, never-before-published photographs from the an1images.com archives, a comprehensive statistics section and much, much more.

“We have a list of ‘down the track’ projects on our office whiteboard and a book on the Adelaide 500’s history has been sitting there on it for some time,’ says book publisher Aaron Noonan of AN1 Media.

“Within minutes of the news being officially confirmed our entire team was texting one another and we were all of the same view that this book needs to happen sooner rather than later.

“Our email and social media accounts have been flooded in the last few days with fans upset about the loss of the Adelaide 500 with many asking if we could create a book capturing its history, magic moments and amazing memories – that’s exactly what we are going to do.

“The new book will also feature a car-by-car view of each year’s event with a photo of each car from each year between 1999 and 2020 to be included to help tell the story of each race. That’s just over 670 photos in these car-by-car sections alone!

“This will be a publication all motorsport fans will want for their collection and we’ve already started work on it to allow fans to look back on an amazing event over 22 years.”

South Australians Richard Craill (co-author of AN1’s recent release book, ‘Bathurst: Going Global, 10 Years of the Bathurst 12 Hour, 2011-2020’) and supercars.com Digital Editor Stefan Bartholomaeus (co-author of AN1’s most recent publication, ‘Seto: The Official Racing History of Glenn Seton’) have joined the editorial team for the project and will combine with V8 Sleuth’s Will Dale and publisher Noonan.

First held in 1999, the Adelaide 500 has become a jewel in the crown of Supercars racing and has won numerous awards over the course of the years, all while playing host to the biggest domestic stars of the V8 category.

The event’s roll call of overall winners reads like a who’s who of Supercars racing, including inaugural winner Craig Lowndes, Mark Skaife, Jamie Whincup, Scott McLaughlin, Shane van Gisbergen, Garth Tander, Will Davison, Rick Kelly, James Courtney, Jason Bright and Nick Percat.

‘Sensational Adelaide: The Illustrated History Of The Adelaide 500’ will be available to pre-order in the New Year.

The 2021 season will be a big year for AN1 Media’s publishing arm.

Earlier this year is announced it has agreed terms with Larry and Jack Perkins to publish the official Perkins Engineering car history book in the third quarter of next year. Pre-orders for that book will open early in 2021.

AN1 Media is in the final stages of negotiation with an overseas publisher for another title to be released in 2021 with announcements relating to further book projects of its own to also come in the New Year.
