Additional V8 round for Bathurst

THE reborn V8 Touring Cars National Series will visit Mount Panorama for the first time in 2023.

Having previously been the level which became Super3, the Australian Racing Group-owned category will break away once more from the Supercars fold next year, targeting all pre-Car of the Future models.

Project Blueprint-specification VE II Commodores and FG Falcons will be eligible to race in both V8TC and Super3.

A five-round calendar will culminate in a November 10-12 finale at The Mountain as part of the Bathurst International.

It was already known that country Victoria would host one event, in what will be dubbed the V8TC Winton 100.

That’s particularly significant in a year where Supercars and Super2/Super3 won’t race at Winton.

While the season-opening venue is still to be confirmed, it is known that the V8 series will run under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park in June.

“2023 is about V8 Touring Cars going back to its roots and re-establishing itself as a place for these great cars to race,” said ARG chief operating officer Liam Curkpatrick.

“At SpeedSeries rounds, V8TC will stand alongside an array of spectacular national level categories with a great broadcast production on Stan Sport and the Nine Network and lots of track time.

“The model change from Super2 to Super3 and subsequently to V8 Touring Cars means there’s plenty of interest from competitors who once again need a place to race them.

“We will be confirming more, including a tyre provider, race formats and other growth plans, in the coming weeks.”
