Allen becomes second-youngest Super2 race winner

KAI Allen has taken the next step in his blossoming career, chalking up his first Super2 race win.

Starting off the front row, it was a lights-to-flag performance for the Eggleston Motorsport young gun who beat polesitter Aaron Seton off the start line.

The fastest starter of all was Allen’s teammate Cameron Crick, who launched from fifth on the grid to second by the time the field approached Turn 2.

Thereafter, Eggleston did not lose hold of its one-two, Allen cruising to victory with a margin exceeding four seconds.

It makes the 18-year-old the second-youngest race winner in category history, only behind Alex Rullo.

Seton hung on for third from Aaron Love, Zane Morse and Cooper Murray.

Crossing the line in seventh was Matt Chahda after an aggressive battle with Ryan Wood but he was demoted to 10th courtesy of a five-second time penalty for a driving infringement.

Wood thus inherited seventh after all, ahead of series leader Zak Best, both of whom gained 11 places over the course of 26 laps.

Zach Bates was ninth, and Chahda rounded out the 10.

McLeod took the class honours in Super3, while Mason Kelly and Chris Smerdon were non-finishers after a Lap 1 collision. Damage then spat Kelly into the outside wall on the Lap 2 run through the fast Turn 1 right-hander.

Best and Jobe Stewart are still atop the Super2 and Super3 standings, albeit with reduced leads of 36 and 15 points, respectively.
