THERE will be a popular addition to the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series field next month, with Shane Beikoff entering his AU Falcon at Queensland Raceway.
Ipswich will host Round 3 of the series and it’s hoped there will be a larger grid as the reborn category gathers momentum.
The early signs are good, given Beikoff and teammate Jarred Danaher (FG Falcon) are coming onboard.
Beikoff raced in the 2000 Bathurst 1000 with Tim Sipp, and was a Super2 regular from 2002-08.
He made a handful of Super3 appearances last year aboard the Harris Racing-built AU Falcon, which never ran in the main game.
“It’s a good package having both of the cars entered together, I will probably be one of the oldest guys out there, so I just want to be able to have one last crack at it,” said Beikoff, 67.
“I haven’t seen the field yet, but I think Jarred will be pretty competitive, that’s what the car is capable of.
“The AU is a little bit older, it will probably be the oldest car out there, but we will have a good run around and give it everything we have got.
“We would like to be there for the next two rounds at Sandown and Bathurst International, my son (Jonathan) would probably love to drive there as we like to switch it up.
“After that we aren’t sure, but that is what we will be doing this year.”
Danaher also competed in Super3 last year, aboard a Triple Eight-built FG Falcon raced by Dick Johnson Racing’s Steven Johnson from 2009-12.
“I am very much looking forward to returning after a couple of years, the Kumho series is where I competed in my first Supercars race, so I am excited to come back.
“It will be interesting to see how I go on Kumhos, it’s been a long time, but we should be reasonably competitive, in Adelaide we were running top three in Super3, so I think we have the car for it here too.”
Jude Bargwanna leads the Kumho Series standings following rounds at Phillip Island and Winton.
