Brown being taught ways of ‘tyre-saving king’ SVG

SHANE van Gisbergen’s last championship-winning Supercars engineer is passing on the Kiwi’s tricks of the trade to Triple Eight successor Will Brown.

Andrew Edwards is now guiding Brown after two seasons with SVG, and a successful Bathurst 500 has the #87 Red Bull Ampol combination leading the 2024 championship.

Brown will accordingly take the orange numbers into Albert Park this week, where tyre mastery is set to be a decisive factor given there will be no compulsory pitstops in the four races.

“Andrew has been running me through how the king of saving tyres last year, SVG, (did it) so he has been making me do a bit of homework,” said Brown.

“I feel pretty confident after the first round that we can go there and do a good job.”

The coveted Supercars silverware up for grabs at Albert Park is the Larry Perkins Trophy, awarded to the driver who accumulates the most points across the four races.

That’s a prize which would be particularly meaningful to Brown from his Erebus Motorsport days.

“That would be awesome to get Larry’s trophy, especially after driving for three years with Jack Perkins, it would be great to get that,” he said.

The MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint, which will be run in support of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, starts Thursday.
