Brown confident of Sandown rebound

WITH a dramatic August of ups and downs behind him, Will Brown is determined to get his 2023 Supercars title tilt back on track this weekend.

Following news breaking that he’d join Triple Eight on a three-year deal starting next season, Brown endured a Tailem Bend shocker while Erebus Motorsport teammate Brodie Kostecki shone.

Brown subsequently dropped from second to fourth in the championship, now 258 points behind Kostecki.

That’s a far cry from the position he was in just two rounds ago, or less than two months ago, when his Coca-Cola Camaro’s #9 had turned orange.

Once again joined by Jack Perkins for the enduros, Brown’s mission to claw his way back into contention starts at the Sandown 500.

“We obviously lost a lot of points at Tailem Bend but we’re still in the championship hunt: it’s not over until it’s over,” Brown told V8 Sleuth.

“There’s so many points to grab during Sandown and Bathurst so it’s going to be a really exciting time. Me and Jack are as dedicated as ever to try to go win races.”

It was in the most recent Sandown 500 that Brown enjoyed a main game breakthrough, navigating severe wet conditions to charge from sixth to second in the 2019 co-driver qualifying race – complete with a noteworthy pass on Garth Tander.

Another 15 months passed before Brown even debuted as a full-timer, in the 2021 Mount Panorama 500.

“I think we’ve always had pace over the last couple of years at Sandown and Bathurst, so definitely confident heading in,” Brown added.

“You never know what can happen but definitely looking forward to it and confident.”
