Brown, Feeney score Sunday Perth poles

THE Sunday rapid-fire qualifying format has set the scene for an intriguing afternoon of racing, as Will Brown and Broc Feeney took the two pole positions on offer.

Qualifying for Race 2

An enthralling opening 15-minute session played out with Chaz Mostert the initial pacesetter.

By the mid-point, top spot had shifted to Anton De Pasquale, ahead of Will Brown.

De Pasquale, Will Davison and Shane van Gisbergen completed their final runs a little earlier than the rest, each shooting to the top albeit out of sequence.

All three would be bumped down in the final flurry of runs as David Reynolds looked set to take pole before Brown banged in a last-gap 54.2450s.

“It shows how bad I drove yesterday, doesn’t it?” said Brown, who qualified 22nd yesterday.

“Obviously the car is pretty good. It just lit up then and to get pole is bloody awesome after yesterday.

“We had a tough day, I stuffed up at the Grand Prix but to get pole, hopefully we can convert it later today.

“It’s just awesome, the cars are fast and hoping for a good race this arvo.”

Brown and Reynolds will share the front row, as six Fords featured in the top eight.

Brodie Kostecki was the other Chevrolet up the front, securing fourth while van Gisbergen was just ninth.

The story of the second qualifying session was contrasting fortunes for the Triple Eight Camaros.

Broc Feeney was the class of the field, setting the fastest lap of the weekend with a 54.1828s.

That was too good, allowing him to hop out of the car and see his time go unbeaten.

“I was pretty pumped with that one,” said the #88 driver.

“I was pretty pissed with the one before it, I think I was on for top three and speared off in the last corner but I thought I executed that pretty well.

“I was pretty pumped when I saw the time and another pole, hopefully we can convert again today.”

Kostecki got closest at 0.0824s adrift, with Race 2 front-row pairing Brown and Reynolds right behind.

Like his teammate, van Gisbergen finished the session in pitlane – but he had to watch on as he slid down to 21st on the timesheets.

The first of two 42-lap races today starts at 11:45am AWST/1:45pm AEST, with the event finale kicking off at 3:45pm AWST/5:45pm AEST.
