BRT racing the clock with wildcard Mustang

THE Blanchard Racing Team has a hectic few weeks ahead to get its wildcard Gen3 Mustang ready for the Sandown 500.

Speaking with V8 Sleuth, team boss Tim Blanchard detailed the progress on its second main game entry which is to be shared by Aaron Love and Jake Kostecki.

“We’re about 70-75 percent done,” Blanchard told V8 Sleuth at the OTR SuperSprint.

“We have got two guys back at the workshop working on it and a few more coming in this week, so it’s all hands on deck.

“We’re on track to have it ready in time but it’s going to be a fairly big stretch to get there.

“There’s a huge amount of work and a huge amount of progress being made on it.

“All of the guys and girls in the team and the wider business, like we did with the Gen3 car at the beginning of the year, everyone is just digging in and getting it done and doing an amazing job.”

BRT does have form when it comes to speed of assembly, having been the first Supercars team to begin Gen3 testing earlier this year.

All going to plan, BRT will spend three successive days testing at Winton: September 4 and 6 for the wildcard, with the regular CoolDrive entry (Todd Hazelwood/Blanchard) running on the day between.

The Sandown 500 will take place across September 15-17.

Chris Fitzgerald will engineer the Love/Kostecki Ford, having filled in last year at main game level and become BRT’s regular Super2 engineer this season.

“So basically it will primarily be our Super2 crew (on the wildcard car) and we’ll bring in some people to help the Super2 car for the weekend,” said Blanchard.

Among those coming in to bolster the Super2 ranks will be legendary figure Wally Storey.

BRT almost certainly will expand to operate as a two-car main game team in 2024.
