Co-drivers in line for Sydney laps

REPCO Supercars Championship enduro co-drivers will take advantage of an opportunity today to further familiarise themselves with Gen3 machinery.

Almost every team had co-drivers on hand this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park in anticipation for a post-round ride day today.

With no additional driver practice scheduled at an event this year prior to September’s Sandown 500, the passenger laps shape as an important exercise away from the spotlight.

Among notable cases is Warren Luff, who’ll hop behind the wheel of a Team 18 Camaro for the first time, having been loaned out from Walkinshaw Andretti United.

Newly announced Dick Johnson Racing wildcard Kai Allen is also set to cut laps in one of the Ford team’s lead cars, as work continues to bring his #98 Mustang to life.

Triple Eight meanwhile has brought all three of its cars, in what will be an opportunity to verify whether they have indeed fixed Shane van Gisbergen’s original Gen3 chassis.

Van Gisbergen switched into the designated wildcard car ahead of Sydney Motorsport Park, setting the tone for a weekend in which he’d be the driver to beat.

The Blanchard Racing Team will have two cars running as a wildcard confirmation announcement looms, but the second of those will be Aaron Love’s Super2 Mustang.

Love raced in S5000 across the weekend, filling in for Joey Mawson, and will be the centrepiece of the expected wildcard entry.

All teams still have at least one test day up their sleeve.
