Courtney scratched from Sunday Newcastle race

TICKFORD Racing’s James Courtney has been ruled out of today’s race at the Newcastle 500.

Tickford has confirmed the #5 Mustang will not make the grid for the 3:05pm start.

Courtney’s car sustained front-end damage in a Turn 7 crash during the Top 10 Shootout earlier this afternoon.

The Ford squad pushed to repair the damage, only for team principal Tim Edwards to report “clearance issues” intervening.

It marks the first time since the 2017 Tasmania SuperSprint that Courtney has been a non-starter.

Tickford currently leads the Supercars drivers’ championship via Cam Waters, who was elevated to the Saturday win after both Red Bull Ampol Camaros were disqualified.

Waters will start this afternoon from fourth place, behind polesitter David Reynolds, Chaz Mostert and James Golding.
