Crash sidelines Super3 rookie from Bathurst weekend

RYAN Gilroy will miss the rest of the Bathurst Dunlop Series round following his crash in Thursday’s second practice session.

The Singleton product, who topped the opening Super3 practice session on Thursday, crashed heavily at Sulman Park during the second.

Gilroy sustained a concussion in the crash that rules him out from the rest of the weekend, but the car would not have been repairable regardless.

“First off, I’m okay just sore and dizzy,” Gilroy said in a post on social media.

“Started today off the day topping Practice 1. So confident in the car this weekend and was awesome to be so fast straight out the box.

“(The crash was at a) super fast part of the track and a seriously big impact with the wall definitely knocked me around. The mountain bit hard this time.

“Unfortunately I haven’t been cleared to race due to a concussion and the car is to badly damaged to be repaired at the track so unfortunately that’s our weekend done.

“Gutted doesn’t even describe how I feel right now but I know this weekend would have been great.

“Thanks to everyone for the messages and well wishes. And thank you to all the medical staff that has cared for me.

“Thank you to the whole team at AIM Motorsport Australia. Will be back next year.”
