Davison anticipating parity tweaks

SUPERCARS veteran Will Davison is confident there will be a fix to the parity debate which reared its head once more as the Melbourne SuperSprint wore on.

The common belief is that Ford teams are more or less satisfied with the aero equation following the last-minute Temora test before Round 1, and they don’t necessarily expect to see major differences in the Centre of Gravity testing which continues today.

Rather, it’s top-end engine performance that is the key concern.

Ford Performance global boss Mark Rushbrook had indicated at the Newcastle 500 that the powertrain situation would need continued monitoring.

Dick Johnson Racing CEO David Noble confirmed via the Parked Up Plus podcast there had been “lots of meetings” on the matter across the weekend.

“We knew that there was going to be ongoing discussions so it’s not anything unusual I don’t think, it’s just in the norm of what we had spoken about to get to that point… now there’s probably some more discussions to be had around the engine,” he said.

DJR driver Davison also told Parked Up Plus: “We’ll just focus on what we can.

“There’s a lot of very fast Camaros at the moment, it’s very difficult to race them at the moment for us, but I’m sure there will be a few changes there to help us out.”

Albert Park overall was a step in the right direction for DJR, which showed renewed competitiveness even if results proved elusive.

“Newcastle was certainly a bit uncharacteristic but we knew we were very much a bit underprepared there, just with the enormity of the workload, which was the same for everyone,” Davison added.

“But for whatever reason we just didn’t have a smooth build-up with testing and we got a bit caught out there, we hadn’t really spent any time on the performance of the car.

“So since then, we have really been able to iron out a few niggles that we had, really quite important ones that we faced in Newcastle with the clutch which was causing us all sorts of grief, so we haven’t had any problems there this weekend.

“We have been really able to work on car set-up, we’re finally starting to understand a bit of direction as to what these cars like.

“We know the calibre of what we have got here, it won’t take us long to get back.”
