Edwards’ praise for Dick Johnson Racing, Triple Eight

FOR nearly two decades, Tim Edwards fought tooth and nail against Supercars rivals such as Dick Johnson Racing and Triple Eight.

Every drivers’ championship from 2008 to 2022 was won by either DJR, Triple Eight, or Tickford Racing where Edwards was long the CEO.

But now employed by Supercars itself as general manager of motorsport, Edwards has high praise for the Stapylton and Banyo organisations’ efforts as the Ford and Chevrolet homologation teams, respectively.

“To be a homologation team in the first place, you have got to remember, that’s a voluntary role that both of those teams have taken on at their cost,” Edwards said on the most recent Motorsport News Podcast.

“So it’s a thankless task because you’re not getting paid for it and everybody wants to critique your work.

“But I think both homologation teams are doing the right thing by the sport and they’re both trying to do the right thing by all the competitors on their side of the ledger, so that’s been good.”

DJR and Triple Eight led extensive development programs in the lead-up to Gen3 and the workload hasn’t exactly slowed since the platform debuted at the 2023 Newcastle 500 in March last year.

“Everybody has been very open and honest and trying to help for the good of the sport,” added Edwards.

Simon Brookhouse succeeded Edwards as Tickford CEO.
