Eggleston Motorsport eyeing Supercars debut

EGGLESTON Motorsport is weighing up a wildcard effort for the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship.

A stalwart of the Super2 Series, Eggleston has previously mulled dabbling in the main game but has yet to do so.

The Victorian squad this year claimed its second Super2 title, with Kai Allen narrowly edging out Anderson Motorsport’s Zak Best. Its first championship came in 2014 via Paul Dumbrell.

The team is set to again be a force next year in the second tier, with Allen, Cooper Murray and Jordyn Sinni all re-signing.

It may yet add to its campaign with a Supercars wildcard. While tight-lipped on details, team co-owner Ben Eggleston did confirm such a desire.

“We will look at it, absolutely,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“At the start of the year, we will throw it all up in the air and work it out what cars are available and what opportunities and what drivers and all that kind of stuff, and then hopefully we can string something together.

“There’s a fair bit of water to go under the bridge between here and probably the end of February.

“If it’s going to happen, I want to get it sorted early because I don’t want to turn up and just do it because we’re doing it; I want to do it and be competitive.

“I’m not saying I expect to win, but I want to be at least 15th or something like that, otherwise there’s no point doing it.

“I know that sounds a bit harsh but I want to do it to get a result.”

Eggleston would not be the first Super2 squad to run a main game wildcard, MW Motorsport (2017), Image Racing (2022) and Matt Chahda Motorsport (2022) among others to have done so in recent history.
