THE V8 Supercar driven by Larry Perkins in his final full-time season of racing has been put up for auction.
Built brand new for the 2002 season, chassis PE 040 was used by Perkins throughout the 2002 V8 Supercar Championship Series.
The same chassis was also used by son Jack Perkins in his maiden Fujitsu Series season in 2006.
The full history of the car is told in our upcoming book Perkins Engineering: The Cars – 1986-2008, running through the history of every touring car built by the team.
The limited-edition collector’s book is currently available for pre-order in the V8 Sleuth Bookshop.
A unique aspect of this car’s history is that it was the only VX Commodore to be converted to VY specifications by the team, which was completed in time for the 2004 season.
The car has lived in Western Australia since its sale by Perkins Engineering in 2007 and was a regular competitor in the V8 Touring Car Series from 2010 to 2013, after which it was sold to its current owner.
Returned to its 2004 Castrol Perkins Motorsport livery, the car is fitted with a period Perkins Engineering-built Holden Motorsport V8 engine.
The online auction will run until September 25.
