Erebus CEO chuffed with Kostecki points buffer

THE finish line is in sight, and it’s a race in which Erebus Motorsport has its nose in front.

Entering this weekend’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, Brodie Kostecki holds a 131-point lead over his only realistic title rival left standing, three-time champion Shane van Gisbergen.

Erebus has capitalised on the new Gen3 ruleset to transform itself into out-and-out frontrunners, and CEO Barry Ryan is satisfied with the situation it’s found itself in after navigating the Sandown and Bathurst enduros.

There will be two 250km races this weekend, each paying the winner 150 points.

The same will be the case at the season-ending VAILO Adelaide 500 next month.

“We would have loved to go into the last four races with a 150-point buffer so we could essentially have a DNF,” Ryan told V8 Sleuth.

“We’re still 131 points up so we can still have one bad race in four and still win the championship, so that’s a bloody good buffer to have.

V8 Sleuth’s coverage of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 is proudly presented by Bad Boy Mowersexplore the world of Bad Boy Mowers with the new Spring/Summer catalogue of high-performance mowers here.

“Even if Shane wins all four races and we get four top fives, we win the championship.

“We don’t want to win it like that but that’s what it’s down to in the end.”

Kostecki said during the week it’s his title to lose now but noted he won’t be sitting back or taking a reserved approach.

Practice begins tomorrow at Surfers Paradise.
