Evans reflects on maiden solo Supercars test

JAXON Evans has enjoyed a maiden opportunity to tune a Supercar to his liking, as he prepares for his solo debut in the category later this month at Bathurst.

Evans has taken over as primary driver of the renumbered #12 SCT Camaro run out of Brad Jones Racing, returning to Australia after five years living overseas.

Supercars is not unfamiliar to the 27-year-old, having co-driven the SCT entry with Jack Smith in the 2022 and 2023 enduros.

But now he’s front and centre – and loving it, based on his pre-season test today at Winton.

“Obviously my first test day as a main driver in the Supercars Championship,” said Evans.

“So it was good to get acquainted with the team again, get comfortable in the car, finetune some things to suit my driving style, or change my driving style a little bit to suit the car.

“Really enjoyed working with my engineer (Julian Stannard) and mechanics and looking forward to going to Bathurst.”

Being able to control the destiny of his car’s direction proved a welcome change from the support role that goes hand-in-hand with co-driving.

“It’s much nicer to have the focus around you, as selfish as that sounds,” the Kiwi added.

“There’s certain driving styles that suit these cars and a few things I suppose that I bring to the table that are slightly different.

“But I think collectively it’s moving forward, and hopefully it gives us a fresh outlook for the season ahead.”

While Evans had the #12 all to himself, the three sister BJR cars were today shared by their primary steerers and newly confirmed co-drivers: Declan Fraser with Andre Heimgartner, Jaylyn Robotham with Bryce Fullwood, and Jordan Boys with Macauley Jones.
