Fans’ chance to have their say on Sandown’s future

PUBLIC consultation is being sought on the never-ending topic that is the future of Sandown Raceway.

There has long been talk that the motorsport component of the Victorian venue is on borrowed time, as a potential rezoning is explored to allow for residential redevelopment.

The historic circuit will host Supercars this September for what will be the 60th anniversary Sandown 500, but there are no guarantees beyond that at this stage.

Victorian Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny has appointed a Sandown Advisory Committee comprising of William O’Neil, Geoff Underwood, Noelene Duff, Rob Adams, Peter Edwards, and chair Kathy Mitchell.

That Committee has already prepared an initial report, and now public consultation is open, whereby written submissions can be made.

Public consultation will be taken until 11:59pm AEST on Monday June 24.

After that, a directions hearing is scheduled for July 17 and a public hearing for the period August 12 to October 2, before a report is presented to Minister Kilkenny in November.

The Bend has been promised a Supercars enduro for next year. That would mean if Sandown makes it onto the 2025 calendar, it would either be as a multi-race round, or a third enduro.
