THE Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang driven this year by Will Davison is set to be run by Matt Chahda Motorsport in the 2023 Dunlop Super2 Series.
It has emerged that a family friend of the Chahdas owns the #17 Ford, also known as chassis DJRS-01.
A major handover process will take place this coming off-season with Repco Supercars Championship teams preparing their new Gen3 cars and bidding farewell to their existing Gen2 machinery.
A scramble continues to rage for Holden ZB Commodores and Ford S550 Mustangs – the only models eligible for the 2023 Super2 Series – with many already snapped up by collectors.
That too is the case for Car #17, although the private owner is happy for the Chahdas to race it.
“The car is basically ours to use and if we don’t want to use it, then he’ll just put it in a museum. He’s not fussed at all,” MCM boss Amin Chahda told V8 Sleuth.
It won’t be the first ex-DJR Supercar which MCM will run; Matt currently drives the Falcon with which a young Chaz Mostert took victory at the 2013 Ipswich 360.
Chahda is a stalwart of Super2, having been a regular on the grid since 2015.
The Albury-based privateers are eager on expanding their operation for next season.
“If we could get the other Mustang, we would definitely run two cars,” said Amin.
“We have someone interested (to drive) but obviously getting a second car has become a bit of a problem.”

Of DJR’s Gen2 fleet, it’s not publicly known who owns the Anton De Pasquale-driven #11 Mustang.
Super3 team owner Michael Anderson purchased DJR’s spare earlier this year in an effort to tackle the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000.
While that didn’t pan out, he’s expected to run the car next year in Super2.
