PETER Xiberras has admitted to offering PremiAir Racing Supercars driver James Golding a taste of a Top Fuel beast as the unified National Drag Racing Championship kicks off.
Xiberras is out to reclaim the Top Fuel title after narrowly missing a three-peat last year and is excited to get his 2023/24 campaign underway this weekend at the new Dragway at The Bend.
Xiberras and Golding inspected the quarter-mile strip in August when in town for the OTR SuperSprint.
“Jimmy Golding and I were lucky enough to check out the track during the final stages of the build a few months ago and I can tell you, it is state of the art,” said the PremiAir team owner.
“I have no doubt this track will be a great boost for the sport locally, in South Australia, and nationally.
“Speaking of Jimmy – I have offered him a drive of the PremiAir Hire Top Fuel dragster; I think it would be great to see him have a go. He hasn’t taken me up on it just yet though!”
Golding is coming off a strong Repco Bathurst 1000 in which he took second in qualifying, fourth in the Top 10 Shootout and 10th in the race with Dylan O’Keeffe.
Having been pipped to the 2022/23 Top Fuel title by Damien Harris, a hungry Xiberras will be sporting a fresh livery this weekend.
“We have won two Top Fuel titles and came very close to a third last season – with this event marking the opening round of our new season, you can rest assured we won’t be leaving anything on the table,” Xiberras declared.
“We want that third championship, and we will be doing everything we can to make sure that we get our hands on it come the grand finale.
“We also have a great new livery to unveil, which will feature alongside our regular supporters the logos of Nulon and GearWrench for the first time, with these great companies expanding into drag racing from Supercars for the first time.”
Action at Dragway at The Bend will take place across October 21-22.
