GRM signs teenager to join Trans Am program

GARRY Rogers Motorsport’s Trico Trans Am Series squad has grown with the confirmation that Lachlan Evennett will make his series debut in next weekend’s opening round at Hi-Tec Oils Race Tasmania.

The 16-year-old stepped into car racing in 2024 and plied his trade across five different categories including Formula Ford, Toyota 86, GT4, Formula Open and Aussie Racing Cars.

Over summer Evennett spent time competing in New Zealand’s GR86 Championship, where he recorded a race victory and multiple podium finishes.

He joins the already-announced James Moffat and Tom Davies in GRM’s 2025 Trico Trans Am Series line-up of five cars.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how I do, especially with the level of competition that the Trans Am Series will have this year,” says Evennett, who will drive the #8 CAMM Quarries & Concrete Mustang.

“I also think it will pose a great challenge for me, but I’m ready to tackle it head on.

“The chance to learn off very experienced drivers like Moff is an awesome opportunity that GRM have given me and I’m very excited to be able to work with them and the entire GRM team.

“I feel really honoured joining GRM and I’m looking forward to repaying the faith that Garry and Barry (Rogers) have put in me for 2025.

“Going into such a hotly contested series, expectations are hard to make, but I really want to learn all the tracks, how the Trans Am feels in racing conditions and fight for top 10 finishes.”

Like teammate Davies in 2023, Evennett impressed as a participant in the 2024 GRM Combine with his adaptability and immediate speed across TCR, Trans Am and S5000 machinery.

“Lachy took part in the GRM Combine in 2024 and he did a tremendous job in the various race cars under the tutelage of Marcos Ambrose and GRM Trans Am drivers James Moffat and Jimmy Golding,” says GRM Director Barry Rogers.

“We have been watching Lachy closely since, particularly his Formula Ford racing with Brett Francis (BF Racing) who we rate highly.

“Lachy has shown tremendous maturity for someone so young and we hope to have a positive influence on his career.”
