MATT Stone Racing driver Cameron Hill is planning to up the ante with a more aggressive approach to his second Repco Supercars Championship campaign.
The Canberran progressively closed the gap to 2023 teammate Jack Le Brocq during the course of last season, and will head into year two with another experienced steerer across the garage in Nick Percat.
Having last week unveiled his #4 Tyrepower Camaro, Hill is hungry to show his mettle.
“I was definitely a deer in the headlights a little bit at the start of last year with a new car, new level of competition and you had to very quickly get your head around the level you needed to be performing at,” he said.
A proven winner having claimed championships in Australian Formula Ford and Porsche Carrera Cup – plus conquering the Bathurst 6 Hour – Hill noted a required change in mentality.
“There was always that ‘trying to do every single lap’ (approach); if there was a 50/50 move, maybe err on the side of caution last year, just wanting to build up, look after the car,” he said.
“That’s something that’s important to us, we can’t just go out there and tear up gear every weekend, so you have got to pick your moments.
“It was really good to get so much running in last year and start to prove to myself that when we get this right, we’re competitive.
“And so for me, now it’s about putting all of last year’s experience to use and maybe come out swinging a bit harder rather than playing myself in as the year goes on.
“I’ve got a year under my belt now so there’s less excuses to hide behind.”
Hill will again be engineered by veteran Paul Forgie.
