Historic Bluebird returns to Bathurst 1000 event

A BATHURST 1000 pole-sitting Nissan Bluebird is among a wide range of vintage cars racing in support of the Repco Supercars Championship next weekend.

The 40-car Heritage Revival field includes 10 different makes: Ford, Holden, Jaguar, Nissan, Valiant, Toyota, BMW, Mazda, Porsche and Alfa Romeo.

There is plenty of Bathurst pedigree in the field, including the Bluebird which will be driven by Brian Henderson.

It was that car which George Fury took to pole position for the 1984 Bathurst 1000, although he and Gary Scott would finish the race 16th.

The Jaguar XJS which won the Great Race the very next year – then driven by Armin Hahne and John Goss – will also be on the grid with Mike Roddy behind the wheel.

In the absence of Touring Car Masters, the Heritage Revival category will provide fans at the Repco Bathurst 1000 with their fix of historic machinery.

“We encourage all our competitors to race closely and show off the relative strengths of their cars, while obviously showing respect for one another, bringing the cars home in one piece,” said Heritage Revival boss Ed Singleton.

“In doing so, it ensures everyone watching trackside or at home on TV can soak up the sights and sounds of these classic machines going flat out around The Mountain.

“In between our races, we welcome all the fans to come for a walk through our pit area, talk to the drivers and car owners, reminisce, share stories and of course take plenty of photos.”

Following two practice sessions, the Heritage Revival field will complete qualifying on the afternoon of Thursday, October 6 before contesting three races across the following two days.
